PISA 2018 results: St. Peter’s outperforms countries with the best OECD results
The relationship with the teacher, our best tool to motivate students
This course, our Year 10 students (15 years old) participated in the PISA tests for Educational Centres (International Program for the Evaluation of Students). These tests evaluate the ability to apply learned knowledge and skills in real life situations, in order to reason and communicate more effectively. Every three years, 15-year-old students from 72 countries are randomly chosen to take the PISA tests. The programme for educational centres offers the opportunity to students of a specific centre to take the tests. The results are an excellent tool for diagnosis and improvement.
The results obtained by St. Peter’s School shows that the performance of our students is above the Spanish average and above leading countries in education, such as Finland, Canada, Germany and the United Kingdom. The results in reading and mathematics shows a difference of more than 13 points above the Spanish average.
Student-teacher relations
One of the key points evaluated by PISA focuses on teacher-student relationships. The role of the teacher, according to the program, is fundamental for educational improvement. Precisely at this point, our students value in a very positive way the relationship with their teachers. They positively value all areas of school environment and discipline.
The Program for the International Assessment of Students (PISA) was promoted by the OECD (Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development) with the objective of evaluating the efficiency in which 15-year-old students acquire the knowledge and skills essential for an active participation in society. The objective, from this first evaluation and diagnosis, is to promote improvement and educational change.
St. Peter’s School has participated in PISA for educational centres, along with 19 other members of the CICAE group (Association of Private and Independent Colleges). The results have been compared with the PISA 2015 tests, which randomly evaluated 1,769 students from 52 schools in 72 countries.
