Last Friday (21st September) thousands of people across the world celebrated #PeaceOneDay. This seemingly crazy idea, conceived in 1999 by the British documentary filmmaker and actor Jeremy Gilley, aimed to establish one day a year when peace would rule in the world with an annual day of non-violence and global truce. Little by little this is becoming reality.
Over the last 10 years, Peace Day has proved to be the largest gathering of individuals in the name of peace ever seen on one day. Jeremy Gilley explains it in the following video:
St. Peter’s School joined the initiative with a number of activities which took place last Friday, sharing the belief that Peace is the only way to face the present and the future of our unique world.
All students in Secondary School participated in the Peace celebrations, sharing the sweetest moment of the day by letting their own peace message fly away attached to a white balloon.
The great results of this year #PeaceOneDay have set an important marker for Peace Day 2013 and helps reinforce the value of this unique annual day as a foundation for long-term sustainable peace.
