Shaping the Future: Annual Meeting of the Open Innovation Committee

As we celebrate our 60th anniversary this year, we continue to honor our legacy of innovation and forward thinking. In this spirit, we recently hosted the fourth Annual Meeting of the Open Innovation Committee, bringing together some of the most brilliant minds in education, science, technology, and the arts to discuss the future of learning and its impact on society.

This year’s committee included esteemed experts such as Xavier Ferràs, Associate Dean of Executive MBA Programs at ESADE; Alfons Cornella, Founder of Curiosity Atelier; Anna Palli, Head of Technology Watch & Quality Assurance at IRTA; Josep M. Martorell, Associate Director at the Barcelona Supercomputing Center; Brunno Vianna, Professor at CITM; and Víctor Dorado, General Secretary at Santander Consumer Finance. Together with St PETER’S leadership and faculty, they explored how to reimagine education to meet the challenges of our rapidly evolving world.

The discussions emphasized the importance of breaking down barriers between disciplines, recognizing that science, technology, art, and literature are deeply interconnected. In the age of exponential advancements like artificial intelligence, fostering intellectual curiosity and collaboration across fields is key. As Alfons Cornella noted, “Innovation isn’t just a skill—it’s an attitude, and it starts with creating an environment that nurtures curiosity and questions, even from the youngest ages.”

This meeting also addressed the global challenges facing the next generation—climate change, technological disruption, geopolitical shifts, and demographic transitions. Xavier Ferràs highlighted the need to prepare students with a broad, adaptable skill set that includes creativity, critical thinking, and resilience, enabling them to face an uncertain future with confidence.

For 60 years, St PETER’S has championed innovative education, introducing groundbreaking subjects like blockchain, nanoscience, and artificial intelligence, and fostering a mindset of exploration and questioning. The insights from this year’s Open Innovation Committee will help us further evolve our curriculum, ensuring it remains a source of inspiration and empowerment not only for our students but also for educators in other schools.

As we celebrate this season of connection and reflection, we are grateful for the opportunity to collaborate with such visionary minds. Together, we reaffirm our commitment to equipping our students with the tools they need to build a better future for themselves, their communities, and the world.
