St PETER’S SCHOOL, alongside families, takes on the responsibility of educating our students in the conscious and responsible use of devices and digital content. Last year, we initiated a reflection process on the impact of technology on the younger generations, the so-called digital natives, and the role that families and schools should play in their ethical and cognitive development.
This process began with a roundtable discussion, during which several parents shared their concerns and offered several solutions and proposals. Based on their contributions, we reviewed and updated our device policy, adjusting it to the current concerns, challenges, and needs. Today, we are happy to share a literature review and present a “Digital Health Workshop Series” to address key issues on this topic. We invite you to read the review and attend these sessions for further information.
In September, we presented our device usage policy guidelines for students and teachers in the school theatre. Furthermore, we want to attend the requests received to organise training sessions to strengthen the alignment between family and school in this crucial educational area. You can review the presentation we shared with parents during last month’s session.
Digital Health Workshop Series For Parents
As a result, we have designed a program to provide parents with tools and educational strategies for digital competency. Through informative sessions, we will explain our approach to digital literacy and ethics and conduct activities to help families manage them with their children. During the sessions, we will address key issues, such as the impact of social media and the integration of technology-based learning across the different educational stages. You can check the program on this link.
This program has been developed by an interdisciplinary team of professionals, including teachers, psychologists, and educational psychologists, and is based on the recommendations of the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP). Furthermore, we will have the guidance of external experts to ensure a rigorous and balanced approach, free from the alarmism that often prevails in the media. Our aim is to equip families with recommendations and tools so they feel prepared and confident in guiding their children in a safe, healthy, and balanced digital environment.
