Exploring creativity through shakespearean performance

One feature of MYP is the way in which we provide our students with creative ways by which they can demonstrate their understanding of topics. In English Language and Literature, Year 7 students are currently studying Shakespeare’s The Tempest. As a formative assessment, they were tasked with filming a persuasive speech, assuming the character of Caliban. The task was to persuade the audience to sympathise with his plight and to help him. The assessment allowed students to show how well they know the characters and plot of the play, as well as allowing them to explore their creativity in a dramatic context. They also enjoyed using Shakespearean English!
