The arts subjects are framed within the IB curriculum and always connect their projects to the units of enquiry, helping our students to develop research, critical thinking, organisational and other skills. Visual art, drama and music all enrich the curriculum at St PETER'S SCHOOL to encourage holistic learning that goes a step further, helping students to develop their creativity and innovative thinking. For their part, movement and physical education aim to equip pupils with the best physical, mental and well-being conditions necessary for all-round personal development.

The Power of the Arts and Wellbeing

More Human Than Ever: Why Art and Physical Education Matter

In a rapidly changing world marked by technological innovation, artificial intelligence, and constant disruption, what does it mean to educate for the future? At St PETER’S SCHOOL, we believe that the answer lies not only in science and innovation but also in the arts, the humanities, and a holistic focus on wellbeing.

Because without creativity, empathy, and self-awareness, there is no true innovation. Without art, there is no humanity.

Learning Beyond the Classroom

From Foundation Years through Middle Years and up to Diploma, our students explore, create, perform, and reflect through a variety of disciplines: Visual Arts, Drama, Music, Physical Education, Sports and Mindfulness. These are not “extras”. They are central to our mission of developing confident, compassionate, and curious learners.

In Primary, this commitment comes alive during our Arts & PE Day, where students rotate through drama, PE, and visual art stations — this year, even inviting their families to join in music and theatre activities. The school was filled with colour, movement, and creativity.

In the Middle Years Program, our Year 9 students presented work from their three electives — Music, Drama and Visual Arts — while Year 10 students showcased their final exhibitions. Each performance, painting or composition told a unique story. At the same time, our Diploma students completed their IB exhibitions, submitting their creations for final evaluation.

Art could be felt in the corridors, seen on the walls, heard in rehearsals — it was everywhere.

Why It Matters

We know that in a world run by technology, what makes us human will matter more than ever. Art, music, performance, and physical expression build the very qualities that students will need for the future:

  • Creativity and critical thinking
  • Collaboration and empathy
  • Resilience and self-awareness
  • A strong sense of identity and voice

These experiences help students navigate complexity, develop emotional intelligence, and approach life with curiosity and confidence.

A Holistic, IB-Driven Vision

As an IB World School, we embed the arts and wellbeing into the very core of our curriculum. Visual and performing arts link directly to Units of Inquiry, helping students make connections across disciplines and develop meaningful projects. Our wellbeing program, including PE, mindfulness, and sports, supports the development of healthy, balanced learners ready to thrive.

Going a Step Beyond

At St PETER’S, we don’t just teach students how to succeed. We teach them how to grow, how to express themselves, and how to stay grounded in a world that’s constantly changing. This is what makes our school different. This is why we go a step beyond.
